a sneak peek

Chapter 1
Elaine and Jenny
It was August. 3 days until 9th grade started. I, Elaine McRodney and my best friend Jeannette “Jenny” Herder sat at the edge of my family’s little lake, our feet brushing against the cold blue water at the back of my house.
“I really don’t understand!” Jenny complained, “If you like him, call him!! It’s the twentieth century! Its almost 1966! We can do whatever we want now! It’s not like in mother’s days, when we had to wear long skirts and always act like perfect princesses!! Be rash!” Jenny’s voice was heavy with anxiousness, like it was her bearing the feeling of longing for a boyfriend. Well actually she was, but she didn’t want one named Thomas Jeffery, a 10th grader at our new school, Staples High.
“Jenny, it’s improper for me to go about calling him, even though I do have 2 short cotton skirts that go only to my knees.” I sighed. Thinking about Tom made butterfly wings grow in my stomach. I see him around town once in a while, -a nice, quaint little town, clean and warm during the summer- but the only reason I even knew his name was because of my older brother going into 11th grade. We had previously gone to different schools, Thomas and I, but now we would finally be in the same school! I always listened intently to him talking if we happened to be at Westport’s main deli, Oscars, at the same time. Just thinking about his voice was like an expensive treat. It was velvety soft, deep and mysterious, like the sea on a calm summer morning.

NEW BOOK

i have decided to write a novel. not a poem book, a novel, though i started it like yesterday so i prolly wont get past page 10 before giving up
here is what it will be about (i will post a sneak peek of the first chapter later)

Elaine and Jenny, the best of friends, have the most exciting year of their lives. In this realistic fiction tale these two girls learn how to be strong when it comes to tragedies-and love. Will they emotionally ever be the same? Maybe not, but that’s a good thing. Because of the events that take place in their lives this year, Elaine and Jenny learn at an early age what it’s like to be responsible and mature. But can they manage to handle so much at the early age of 14?

Athena

Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom. She, unlike Thoth, looks like a normal mortal. Except for the fact that she is 60 feet tall and more beautiful than most mortal women. Athena is benevolent, fair, strong, and merciful. She is also Zeus’s favorite child. Athena came straight from the head of Zeus. This is because Zeus swallowed Athena’s mother, Metis. But Metis went straight to Zeus’s head where she gave him endless headaches. Zeus had to split his head open to stop them.

Athena came out.

CHAPTER TWO OF 14

Chapter 2
Staples High
Tomorrow was the first day of high school. My first day ever!! Tomorrow!! I grabbed the family phone, hoping nobody needed it now. I dialed Jenny’s number and before even the first ring had finished she picked up.
“I have a crisis” she stated matter-of-factly. “Same here,” I replied, cutting her off, “not a thing in my closet will work for the first day of school.” “You read my mind!” Jenny exclaimed, “The only suitable thing is the tank-top outfit I have and there are no green shoes in my closet to match. We need to go shopping today.” I loved Jenny’s tank-top outfit. It was a cute green tank-top and a pair of black pants to match. “Yes Jenny, wear that outfit!!” I said happily, “meet me on Main Street in half an hour. We can go to the new retro store and buy what we need for tomorrow, see you!” “Bye Lane! See you there!” and the phone’s vibrating stopped.
I ran over to my blue piggy bank. I almost had 20 dollars in there now! I snatched up five dollars and put the piggy bank back into hiding so my brother wouldn’t find it. Then I hopped onto my bike and rode over to Retro City.
“Lane!!! Guess what!” Jenny wildly ran over to me as soon as she spotted me putting my bike on the bike rack. “What is it Jenny?” I asked hurriedly; for we had to get to the store fast enough to have at least hours to shop. “My dad gave me a whole 3 dollars and 75 cents, isn’t that wonderful Lane!” “That’s cool Jenny, can’t wait to spend it at the store!” Jenny nodded her head and rushed inside.
Retro City was amazing. The inside was bright neon green and hot pink streaks circled around the room like racing cars. Racks of purple, pink, yellow, and blue shirts were lazily thrown around the room, somehow forming a bright rainbow. Elastic pants filled with varicolored designs were strung over racks, fashioned to make lopsided smile. The sun, peeping out from behind a pair of zigzag curtains, was making the shiny purple rug glitter.
“Rad,” Jenny grinned. “Jenny!” I exclaimed, “Don’t use such slang!” Jenny smiled brightly, her golden locks framing her freckled face and chocolate eyes. “Don’t be such a buzz kill” and she winked at me.
“Oh my gosh!!” Jenny squealed in delight. I rushed over to see what she found. She was holding up a pair of bright blue leggings with fake holes down the left and right legs. I stroked one and it bristled against my finger. “Jaw dropping” I promised gently. “You think?” she eagerly asked, “I love them Jen, you have to get them, they are so you!” I said convincingly. “And their half off!” Jenny said.
By the time she was back from the register she still had 50 cents laid out in her hand. “What can I buy with this?” she asked me. “Maybe if you’re lucky you can a bracelet for that much money.” I said and wandered off in the racks of clothing.
There it was, staring down at me from the top of a pink mannequin. The base color was green and drops of neon pink and blue paint were splattered across the chest. It was the perfect shirt. “Jenny! I shouted halfway across the store. She ran over, 2 bright colossal bracelets hanging from her left wrist. “You found something?” She happily asked me. “That shirt” I said and pointed at the multicolored beauty. “AH” was all Jenny managed to say, gaping at the colorful shirt.

The Hands of the Sky

The cold breath of the wind blew against my neck, the icy fingers of the sky reached out and tried to grab me, I sprinted up the path of evergreens, making the wind a furious swirl of harsh air, but I stayed invincible to the raging tornado behind me. The sky’s fingers clenched in frustration, it was an all out war between me and the strong. The evergreens took sympathy over me and joined my side, dancing around me, protecting me from the raw words of the wind. The sky sought me an easy target and started throwing water at me. A tree lifted its arm over my head while the others ran around me. The wind found a gap in my tree soldiers and threw itself at me, pushing me away from my only life chance. The fingers of the sky saw a chance to kill and grabbed hold of me with its muscled hands, wringing me out in a tortured manner. By a miracle the stars came to life, to my surprise to help me, they shone brighter and grew larger, blinding the wind and holding down the deadly hand of the sky, I ran away with my life, the evergreens trying to comfort me with a grand dance and costumes of glistening leaves. The other stars found a way to help me and made an arrow pointing to the way of protection and warmth, I ran toward it with all the will I had left in me after the dark hand tried to kill and sighed as a log cabin came into view.
